Stockholm’s equine ambulance saves the lives of sick horses

Stockholm’s equine ambulance entered service in 1978 on the initiative of Margareta Wallenius- Kleberg. Until then, horses seriously injured in races at, for example, at the Solvalla or Täby racecourses were collected by a lorry equipped with a crane. Hardly dignified treatment. Fortunately, Margareta was able to bring a number of sponsors together on the project and an equine ambulance was duly purchased from the Helsingborg Veterinary Clinic.

“I think very, very highly of Margareta, whose idea this was. She is passionate about the wellbeing of horses. Despite being so busy, she still takes the time to call and find out how things are going on a detailed level,” says Rolf Nilsson, operational manager of the equine ambulance service, who has been with the organisation from the beginning.
